The Retail General Manager is responsible for the strategic and day-to-day leadership of the Pasea Estate Complex, encompassing a high-volume grocery store, Riteway Home - a specialty retail outlet offering a curated selection of wines, spirits, and household goods, and a full-service provisioning business. This individual will drive the commercial performance of the complex, ensuring high standards of customer service, operational efficiency, and financial success.
Key responsibilities include achieving sales targets, optimizing profitability, maintaining high merchandising standards, managing large teams, and enforcing compliance with health and safety regulations. The role requires strong leadership, a customer-centric mindset, and a hands-on approach to managing people, products, and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational & Financial Management:
Drive the profitability of all retail operations within the Pasea Estate Complex.
Monitor daily operations and implement strategies to improve productivity and manage expenses.
Analyze management reports to make data-driven decisions on staffing, operating hours, shrink reduction, and inventory control.
Utilize the Store Management Suite (SMS) to maintain stock levels, ensure timely ordering, and reduce out-of-stock occurrences.
Customer Experience & Visual Standards:
Foster a culture of excellent customer service across all areas.
Ensure proper merchandising and adherence to the company’s visual standards, including correct labeling and presentation.
Collaborate with the Provisioning Manager to ensure a premium customer experience for both local and international clients.
Team Leadership & Development:
Lead, mentor, and evaluate a team of 200+ employees, ensuring proper staffing and professional development opportunities.
Oversee recruitment, orientation, and training in collaboration with the HR Department.
Conduct regular staff evaluations and provide constructive feedback for continued growth.
Create advancement opportunities for high-performing team members.
Inventory & Product Management:
Oversee inventory accuracy, product quality, and availability.
Minimize shrink through strategic ordering, control of damages, and close-dated goods.
Enhance salvage processes in collaboration with the Central Kitchen and Loss Prevention teams.
Ensure proper execution of direct purchasing protocols from local vendors.
Marketing & Promotions:
Support implementation of marketing initiatives including bi-weekly specials, in-store promotions, and holiday events.
Review and suggest improvements to Riteway’s advertising efforts.
Health, Safety & Maintenance:
Enforce health and safety procedures for both staff and customers.
Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and a preventative maintenance schedule is in place.
Reporting & Compliance:
Provide feedback to internal departments regarding product performance and customer insights.
Ensure compliance with company policies and contribute to bi-annual retail inventory counts.
Maintain clear communication channels between retail locations and head office support teams.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in retail management, preferably in grocery or high-volume environments.
Proven leadership and team development skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Proficiency in inventory management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
Strong math and computer literacy skills.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed.
Experience managing multicultural teams in a dynamic retail environment.
This is an on site role - relocation to the British Virgin Islands is required.
