Director of Logistics and Distribution
As the Director of Logistics and Distribution for our division, you will lead warehouse operations and the movement of products from the California and Florida distribution facilities to stores across the Caribbean and Pacific. The role builds efficient warehouse processes, guides implementation of a warehouse management system, manages transportation and ocean freight relationships, and oversees import and export compliance. This leader works closely with Operations, Merchandising, Finance, and external partners to improve service, control costs, and support reliable store supply.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead warehouse operations in California and Florida, including receiving, inventory control, order fulfillment, shipping, safety, and service performance.
- Design, document, and improve warehouse processes using measurable gains in time, capacity, accuracy, service, and cost. Establish operating standards and train teams to sustain improvements.
- Lead the evaluation, integration, and implementation of a warehouse management system (WMS), including process requirements, data readiness, testing, training, adoption, and performance after launch.
- Manage the distribution network and coordinate freight movement to stores, resolving delays and improving delivery reliability and total landed cost.
- Build relationships with major ocean carriers and freight partners; develop, negotiate, and manage ocean freight contracts, rates, service terms, and carrier performance.
- Oversee import and export transactions, documentation, customs broker relationships, and regulatory compliance. Maintain working knowledge of USDA export requirements for Caribbean destinations and applicable import and labeling rules in major Caribbean markets.
- Assess and, where appropriate, lead the setup and implementation of a foreign trade zone (FTZ) operation in Miami for dry goods, including operational processes and coordination with qualified compliance partners.
- Lead, coach, and develop warehouse and logistics teams; set clear goals, accountability, and succession plans.
- Partner with Category Management, Retail Operations, Finance, and other stakeholders on shipment planning, inventory flow, issue resolution, and improvement priorities.
- Define and monitor key performance indicators for warehouse productivity, inventory accuracy, order quality, freight cost, on-time delivery, and compliance; report results and recommendations to leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field preferred.
- At least 7 to 10 years of progressive experience in supply chain, warehouse operations, and logistics, preferably in grocery or multi-market retail, with substantial people leadership experience.
- Demonstrated hands-on success designing and implementing warehouse processes that save time, resources, or cost; experience implementing or integrating a WMS is required.
- Experience with international ocean freight, major carriers, and freight contract development and negotiation.
- Practical knowledge of import and export compliance, customs documentation, and USDA export requirements; familiarity with Caribbean import and labeling requirements.
- Experience establishing and implementing an FTZ operation, preferably in Miami and involving dry goods, is required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills balanced with effective communication, collaboration, and people management.
- Proficiency with ERP, WMS, and transportation management tools; Spanish language proficiency is a strong plus.
- Ability to travel periodically to California and store markets in the Caribbean and Pacific.
